Freedom of Choice: the design

Sunday 25 August 2024

The design of the outdoor exhibitions was created by Kunstconstructie from Arnhem. It is a spatial interpretation of the tension between past and present.

The use of aluminium refers to the aircraft from the air war that marked the River Region. The installation follows a winding form, inspired by the river as a metaphor for time and perspective.

Intimate spaces invite visitors to reflect on the dilemmas of the Second World War, without an overview – just like back then. Openings in the walls offer a view of today’s world, allowing past and present to meet. Inside and outside merge seamlessly. The changing route and slanted walls reinforce the theme of fragile freedom, then and now.

A place to pause, to look, and to feel.
